Developing an AI-Resilient Learning Experience at RWTH

AI is transforming university education and assessment. At the recent Deans of Academic Affairs Conference, RWTH Aachen University discussed strategies for developing AI-resilient educational methods to ensure long-term student success. Professor Joost-Pieter Katoen highlighted that many students are already utilizing generative AI for their coursework, raising concerns about the potential decline of essential academic skills like critical thinking and independent learning.
In response, the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning emphasized the need for ongoing innovation in exam formats that prioritize core competencies while being resilient to AI influences. The goal is to empower students to use AI responsibly and thoughtfully, fostering a future-oriented approach to teaching and learning.
The conference brought together diverse voices from RWTH, including Deans of Academic Affairs, Rector Professor Ulrich Rüdiger, student representatives, and members of the AStA Students’ Committee. They collaboratively addressed pressing challenges in education and formulated cross-departmental strategies for the future.
Discussions included presentations on student needs in the AI era, focusing on fairness, transparency, and equitable access to essential tools. Working groups explored best practices for documenting and ensuring transparency in the application of generative AI in academic settings.

Started out as a physicist, then became radiologist, now working at the interface between medicine and natural sciences.

BMFTR call on ML - Submission of project outline by 30 April 2026

With this call, the BMFTR is promoting research projects in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning methods. Funding: up to €2,000,000 for up to 3 years (possibility of extension with project extension of up to two years).
