News from the University Archives
The University Archives will soon take custody of the estate of chemist Dieter Enders (1946–2019). Enders, who served as professor and director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry at RWTH from 1985 until his death, is best known for synthesizing a bark beetle pheromone. This pheromone enables the environmentally friendly control of this insect in forests. His scientific achievements were acknowledged by more than one award. In addition to photographic material, the estate primarily consists of his annual diaries, which may prove to be of great significance for future biographical and history-of-science research. |

A Look Back at Young Academics Day 2026
On Friday, September 4, 2026, the University Library presented on the topics of open access, patents and standards, and research data management at Young Academics Day. The open access booth provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions: Visitors learned about the publication services offered and how the publication fund works. The focus also included specific questions about the advantages of open access publishing beyond traditional publishing channels, the benefits of preprints in knowledge dissemination, and questions regarding the publication of dissertations by doctoral candidates from different academic disciplines. In addition, there was praise for the high-quality publication service and the smooth handling of open access funding through the publication fund. A new addition was the Open Access Game, which served as an icebreaker to kick off the discussion on OA topics.
