Indonesian Ambassador Visits RWTH
The Indonesian Ambassador, Arif Havas Oegroseno, visited RWTH as part of an Indonesian Roadshow aimed at strengthening German-Indonesian collaboration.
The diplomat cited his government’s goal for Indonesia to become a leading economic nation, saying that the country’s wealth of raw materials was the foundation for this endeavor. Oegroseno wants to use this boon to produce higher-value goods and achieve greater added value through exports. He emphasized his country’s close and long partnership with Germany over the past 71 years and invited local scholars to move forward together by collaborating in research projects. He said that with its Center for Circular Economy, RWTH has an excellent example of what joint research can look like. RWTH Rector Professor Ulrich Rüdiger emphasized the importance of collaboration across borders to promote global sustainability.
The intercultural discussions were accompanied by two workshops offering participants the opportunity to learn an Indonesian dance called Kecak and get to know the traditional musical instrument Angklung. The event ended with a cultural evening at the Reiff Museum, which also featured a performance of Indonesian dances. “For the large Indonesian community in Aachen, most of whom had or have a relationship with RWTH, it was nice that we as a University hosted such an event,” summarizes Professor Thomas Rüde, Rector’s Delegate for Collaboration With Indonesia and head of the Hydrogeology Teaching and Research Area at RWTH.
