Center for Sustainable Hydrogen Systems (CSHS)
The Center for Sustainable Hydrogen Systems at RWTH Aachen University is committed to a greener future and the design of a hydrogen economy. One key to success is its close collaboration with the Center for Circular Economy. The centers’ joint projects aim to establish a sustainable hydrogen economy following a holistic approach.
The significance of the centers’ endeavors is underlined by a joint project financed by the RWTH Sustainability Fund after evaluation in a competitive process. These funding will be used to develop an energy-optimized, recyclable research building setting new standards for sustainable infrastructures. The building embodies the University’s commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint by incorporating renewable energy sources, energy-efficient technologies, and recyclable materials in order to reduce, reuse, and recycle the flows of energy and materials.
The Center's activities, such as hosting the Aachen Hydrogen Colloquium or its involvement in international research networks such as Hydrogen Europe Research, strengthen sustainable practices, innovation, and the Center's position as an important player in the European hydrogen research landscape.
Locally, the Center contributes to developing a greener campus. It has applied for approval for an electrolysis plant to produce the hydrogen required for this.
The Center has made extraordinary progress in the area of sustainability. Driven by its participation in collaborative initiatives, its involvement in hydrogen research, the funding it received for establishing environmentally-friendly infrastructures, and plans to generate green hydrogen, the Center remains committed to its mission of advancing sustainable hydrogen solutions and promoting a holistic hydrogen economy. It therefore makes a valuable contribution to a more sustainable future for generations to come.
