Indo-German Centre for Sustainability (IGCS)

Launched in 2010 by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and RWTH, IGCS is a flagship project of Indo-German university cooperation that generates and leverages innovative knowledge to help ensure a sustainable future for all. The IGCS is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) until 2024. It is also funded by the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology and Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH as an industrial partner.

The IGCS brings together experts, researchers, and students from renowned institutions and supports this highly engaged community in tackling pressing global challenges. Other important partners of RWTH and IIT Madras are the TU9 Universities and Kiel University. The collaboration covers a wide range of activities, from pursuing innovative research projects to formulating effective policy recommendations and delivering practical solutions in the field of sustainability.
