Targeted Support for Ideas

Sustainability at the University depends on the commitment and active involvement of its members. The Governance focus area therefore aims to create visibility for funding opportunities and make it easier to turn ideas into projects. One instrument for this is the Sustainability Fund. Launched as a pilot project, it supported 15 projects between 2022 and 2024, with a total of €260,000 in University funding.

The funded projects cover a wide range of approaches. They include energy-saving initiatives such as “Compressed Air Efficiency,” which analyzes the power consumption of compressed-air systems, and “Tomorrow’s Construction in a CO₂-Optimized Laboratory,” as well as practical measures like “Insect-Friendly Mowing Tools” for campus maintenance. All share a clear focus on making RWTH's operations more sustainable. A detailed overview of all funded projects is available here.

In a new funding round, €25,000 will be available through the end of 2026 to support smaller initiatives across all focus areas. University members are once again invited to submit ideas and apply for funding.
